I am a product of the Westside of Chicago, the same place where our students and families are from. I grew up in the same neighborhoods where they now live. I know the history of our city and how the black experience has lent itself to the making of what
Chicago is today.
I am a product of Grow Your Own Teachers (GYO), a community impact organization that supports and encourages individuals ready to share their wisdom as teachers and mentors in their home neighborhoods. As the assistant principal and lead teacher at Hope
Excel, I also continue to partner with this organization to bring in-house student teachers and teachers.
Lastly, I am the Executive Director for Action Now, a pillar of liberation and strength in Chicago. As a community activist organization, we fight for a future that embraces the most marginalized among us at all costs. Based on my roots in the community, my love for education and my students, and my passion as a community activist and organizer, and I love all things Black and Black led.
