Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers) by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators.

As ever, the Nrich resources are well thought out. This one looks at a simple rule for writing fractions as a sum of unit fractions. Could easily be turned into a whole lesson or just used as part of a lesson on fractions.

Nice enrichment activity with a history connection for addition and subtraction of fractions with unlike denominators.
