About This Lesson

Images of the Cold War – hammer and sickle, an atom bomb; described as the world in which the viewers’ grandparents lived. This is a time when the Soviet Union was seen as the evil empire regardless of being an ally in the Second World War. The presenter argues that the subsequent arms race was played out in Korea, Vietnam and Angola. Following the virtual fall of communism, the presenter asks whether it is the world’s most rapidly growing economies that pose a threat now, or a growing nuclear potential. The pdf file contains related lesson plans and activities.
