About This Lesson

Resource adapted from the USHMM website which allows students to explore the degree of responsibility shared by people involved at various levels during the time of the Holocaust. I often start with the card activity then use the sources about what Germans knew at the end - but it works effectively if you begin with the sources as this often answers many questions for students. Most importantly is making sure that students explain their reasoning for their judgments - I use large pieces of sugar paper to allow students to map out their thinking and annotate their cards.
