About This Lesson
Students will learn about and use cucurbits in a variety of creative activities—writing plays using cucurbits as characters, playing a hiding game in which students must perform math and reading activities, writing haikus and interpreting cucurbit-related poetry. Students will use cucurbits in mapping activities. Students will use cucurbitsin math activities—as nonstandard units of measure, practice with fractions, estimation, graphing, probabilities. Students conduct scientific experiments with squash. Students will use squash as the subject for still life works of art.
