About This Lesson
The Do Now and Exit Ticket is the framework for how my students analyzed imperialism. The main question is "what was the primary motive for Europeans: Capitalism, racism, or nationalism?" So the Do Now defines those terms and asks students to brainstorm how each term would motivate one nation to invade and conquer another. The Africa documents include maps, political cartoons, primary and secondary sources, and the task for students is to annotate where they see evidence of capitalism, racism, and nationalism as causes of imperialism.
