About This Lesson

OPENING

Discussion: What type of music do you like? Who are your favourite musicians/band?

BODY

Listen to a song and fill out its work sheet.

Song 1 Here Comes the Sun

https://youtu.be/H3OhtUtqY7Q

or

https://open.spotify.com/track/6dGnYIeXmHdcikdzNNDMm2?si=TZIDAe4EQ3inp2vbcYA2nQ

Bonus: write an extra stanza to the song!

Worksheet of weather expressions, origins, meanings, more expressions. Do we like the cold winter or the hot summer? What were George Harrison’s associations with the sun (negative or positive)?

Song 2 You Are My Sunshine

https://open.spotify.com/track/5hczVgr3jA5rs9F72O66Ul?si=ZdyuHc3GRkKCbMgZppcncQ

or

https://soundcloud.com/barbralicamusic/10-you-are-my-sunshine

After You Are My Sunshine go back and listen to the last chorus and note how the singer changes the tense of the verbs. Also, this is a great song for a discussion: “Is this a happy or sad song?”, “How do you relate to the emotions of the singer?”, “Did you know that (JImmie Davis), a co-author of the song was a racist (pro-segregation), do you think it’s OK to listen to the song?”.

CLOSURE

What have we learned? Sum up: the weather, music/;lyrics, expressions/chunks in English.
