About This Lesson
This free classroom resource pack accompanies Matt & Levy’s (Not-So-Perfect) Plan by Amber Elia, a middle-grade novel about friendship, independence, and inclusion. The materials help students in grades 3–6 explore empathy, accessibility, and understanding through eight engaging literacy and social-emotional learning (SEL) activities.
Each worksheet encourages reflection, creativity, and connection, whether comparing characters, designing an inclusive space, or pledging to “see things differently.” Teachers and librarians can adapt these activities for individual, small-group, or whole-class use to foster discussion around belonging and inclusion for all learners.
Students will:
- Demonstrate story comprehension and sequencing skills.
- Build awareness of accessibility and inclusion.
- Reflect on personal experiences through writing and art.
- Collaborate to design inclusive environments.
