My own educational background spurred me on to become a teacher, having attended all public schools throughout my life, from H. C. Lea Elementary School in West Philadelphia to UC Berkeley for my undergraduate degree in French with a minor in Art History. I began teaching in the Los Angeles Unified School District in 1989, straight out of undergrad, through the District Intern Program. Working in the South Central area of Los Angeles provided the best training ground, and wonderful, memorable, experiences connecting with newly arrived immigrant families and long-time residents. I went on to obtain a master's degree in Educational Administration from California State University, Long Beach. I spent years working with community-based organizations while my children grew up. Finally, I made it to the Long Beach Public Library, which has been like a giant classroom for me. Working with teens and tweens to help mitigate the impacts of the global pandemic, I plan programs, purchase supplies, partner with community organizations, participate in citywide outreach and provide input for other city programs. I feel that we are all teachers in our own way, and I love sharing in the wealth of knowledge and inspiration that is available through Share My Lesson.
