Leap to Teacher...

My name is Jacqueline Vargas, I am a Paraprofessional currently employed by the DOE in NYC. I also take part in the ladder program called leap to Teacher for Paraprofessionals. It has helped me along the way to answer my calling of becoming a teacher. I love working with students, to help them see their potential as part of the future of our society and country. As a mother of a special needs child I know the urgency of preparing our children for their greatest potential. I hope to receive the advice, strategies, and methods from experienced professionals, that I could implement in my classroom to better enhance my teaching style.

I would like to introduce myself to the community.

My name is Ms. Lorelei, is what my students call me. I absolutely love my career with Brookfield school district. It has become my purpose in life and my joy every day waking up and looking forward to going in to teach my kids. I work with children that are going through all sorts of crisis situations. I am there to support them educationally. However, I also try to help them emotionally, socially, and especially uplift their spirits. I am a positive, outgoing and fun-spirited teacher that does my very best to guide these students with whatever work they must complete as well as provide them with work on a daily basis. I like to think that I make at least one kid smile a day. That is one of my many mini goals to achieve. I also like to think that I make one small difference in their lives, anywhere from giving them help with an assignment they are struggling with for school, or just being there to listen if they need to talk. As I said this is my purpose and I live to learn and love to teach. I do hope that I will get the chance to be apart of the virtual conference this summer, and I really would like to learn new ways of helping with trauma based situations. Especially with ways to deal with these children that struggle with certain things that I may not be able to give them comfort or advice to get through certain things. I do hope to also learn a lot more innovative teaching ways of the new generation. I need to update my education in a lot of ways, because it's been a long time since I've been to school and they are teaching subjects very differently in schools today. Thank you for taking the time in reading my comments and you may reach out to me anytime with advice or questions. Have a fantastic weekend!
