About This Lesson

The Luba Kingdom is an influential Central African state that has flourished for the past several centuries in what is now the Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Sculpted thrones, elegant scepters, and commemorative figures played significant roles in shaping the powers of this sophisticated African culture. Royal emblems were vital to its formation and expansion. Included here are descriptions of several objects from the exhibition, as well as curriculum connections that can be adapted for use in the classroom for students of all ages.
