About This Lesson
This set of lesson plans, resources, and activities is for use with “A Chair for My Mother” by Vera B. Williams. It can be used for whole group, small group, and independent instruction – which makes these resources a smart choice for literacy centers or Reader’s Workshop. My goal was to make it easy to teach readers how to think about "A Chair for My Mother" using a variety of comprehension strategies:
- Retelling and Summarizing
- Making Inferences
- Identifying the Author’s Purpose
- Visualizing
- Understanding Text Structure
