About This Lesson

ESSENTIAL QUESTION: How does the great democratic experiment continue to make progress toward a better democratic experience for all?

Objectives:  To have students analyze and evaluate the importance of civic participation in a democracy

Lesson includes Quotation Interpretaton DO NOW (Alexis de Tocqueville), Reading based on Ayars' book entitled "The United States Government:  A Citizen's Inquiry Into What It Is and What It MIght Be", Pew Research Center National Representative Survey - "Social Media and Political Engagement" and Video Clip:  Katie Couric "On Civil Discourse, Disagreement and Respect" and Homework based on news article "Breaking the Encryption Deadlock Involves Compromise" (Washington Post).
