About This Lesson

Students design a procedure to measure the densities of six clear liquids, use food coloring to dye them in rainbow order, then combine them in that order in a graduated cylinder to check their work. If students measure accurately, the colored liquids will remain in separate layers, creating a rainbow--the kids love this! Good to use as a performance assessment; it's very easy to determine which students can perform mass and volume measurements correctly!
