About This Lesson

Soon after its 1973 completion, the World Trade center, and specifically the Twin Towers, were recognized as New York City's new, must-see destination, quickly capturing the public's imagination as an icon of the city's audacity, vitality and economic might.

A souvenir trade quickly developed around the World Trade Center as the Towers became one of the most photographed features of cityscape, lending themselves to miniaturization as key chains and other trinkets, as well as being featured on the surface of postcards, mugs, scarves and more.

Use the graphic organizer located in the resources tab to explore this featured online collection anddiscover how the Twin Towers became iconic and beloved features of the New York City skyline.
