About This Lesson

This unit will expose students to the concept of gentrification. Participants will read and review an article on the topic looking at the negative and positive aspects of gentrification. They will examine its impact on Harlem, a New York neighborhood. They will gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources to debate the topic in a formalized debate. The unit will teach the skills of a debate. The unit also provides additional resources to allow students to consider how gentrification has or may be relevant to their own lives and neighborhoods.

Really well organized lesson broken down in manageable parts with options for modifications. Thank you for sharing. An added resource to share is the documentary My Brooklyn available to view for free on Kanopy.
