About This Lesson
Students engaged in a guided reading of Devil in the White City and then apply material from the novel to what life was like in America at the turn of the century. An extension activity asks the students to write a new ending to the book that will "clean up" the black city (parallel changes made during the Progressive Era).
The Power Point and Handout are really thorough and would be a good overview for students to understand the big changes during Progressivism.
