About This Lesson

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:  HOW HAS HAIR AS A "SYMBOL" CHANGED OVER TIME?

OBJECTIVE:  To have students analyze and evaluate the symbolism associated with hair throughout world history

Students will utilized animated film clips, websites, four graphic organizers and group structure to determine how hair throughout world history has represented power, social status, style, culture, fashion, messages, religion (from Ancient Civilizations to Today) Critical Thinking questions surround issues of consumption spending and tolerance.

Group 1 - Mythology and Old Age (Part 1)

Group 2 - Old Age (Part 2) and Middle/Ages and Renaissance

Group 3 - 18th and 19th Centuries

Group 4 - 20th Century and Barbershop History
