About This Lesson

Inferential reasoning is an example of higher order language. It is the ability to make use of context and general knowledge which is then applied to the information presented. This information can be given in written; pictorial or spoken forms. It is an important part of language development in middle school. This activity looks at one aspect of inferential reasoning; that which comes from visual stimuli. Through this type of activity students will become more confident at answering ‘what do I know?’ and ‘what can I predict?’

As a teacher in a PRU with many pupils with low literacy skills I found this a great resource to concentrate on inference skills without the need to decode large chunks of text. This has given me a great starting point and has sparked off some extension ideas. :-)

great resource, with really good ideas which could be appealing to children of various ages and cognitive abilities, with little adaptation
