This is an activity that can be "played" by students to introduce them to the concept of trading and the difficulties of trade in ancient times. As students attempt to trade, you can create hazards that make it more difficult, such as getting robbed by bandits, or getting stuck in a desert windstorm, etc.
I used this in a 6th grade classroom. The students loved it! They realized that it was a lot harder than they thought, and it challenged them to be creative. I had some students asking to play it more than once, changing up the teams and missions. We were able to spread out in the Media Center and really feel like we were "walking."
