About This Lesson

This is a great center during an American Patriotism unit. There are five scrambled sentences about five American symbols: Liberty Bell, American Flag, Statue of Liberty, Bald Eagle and the US Capitol. Students work with a partner to unscramble the sentences. Each sentence gives a simple fact about the symbol. Make copies of the recording sheet for each child. Run the scrambled sentence cards on multicolored cardstock and laminate. I have the students use a pen when writing the sentences and encourage them to write small, "like a first grader."
