About This Lesson

This resource contains a site history, site plan and tour, documentary sources and site photos to support teaching about Restormel Castle, England and its shadowy past! The pack also gives interesting ideas such as getting children to build a ‘mock’ castle using the descriptions documentary evidence as a base along. You can also make cross curricular links with Art and Design, Citizenship, English, Geography, Math and Science.

This resource would be best used in Britain where students could work on site while visiting the castle. However, this could be used in American classrooms Grade 7-The Middle Ages. The teacher could show the great lengths medieval men and women went to protect themselves (circle castle to provide 360 degree view and less likely for people to climb, moat, walls, thick bricks, bow and arrow slots, etc.) This would be a great way for students to analyze the pictures/resources and discover what this told about their main concerns in life (safety!!!!) and determine who would they be protecting themselves from.
