About This Lesson

This film presents two points of view: the conservationist, against the GM producer. Whereas the GM supporter believes GM increases yield and requires fewer pesticides, the conservationist believes that the claims are false. She also expresses concerns that GM will reduce biodiversity, produce mutated strains (that would not appear in nature because they are cross-species) and she is worried about the lack of evidence regarding health risks. Who do you believe?

Destroyer

GM produce is creepy. DNA of fish spliced into the DNA of tomatoes for a redder color? Is that a good reason to genetically modify plants? How about chemical companies being able to patent the unpatentable? If feeding the world is the goal, why did Monsanto sue (and win!) the farmer in Canada who had its precious GM plants growing circumstantially on his farm? Why not just altruistically feed the world?
