About This Lesson

This is a great math center. Kindergarteners always have trouble identifying coins. Each child gets a laminated game board. I fill a colorful sock with 40 real coins, pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters.
Children take turns reaching in the sock and pulling out a coin. They must say the name of the coin and cent value. It's ok to ask for help since this is a guided practice activity. The coin is then put in the box with the matching coin. When the sock is empty, each child must tell the group how many of each coin he/she has.

I like how you use real coins to help students learn what they look like and the value of each. Thanks for sharing!
