Although this resource references actual site visits in UK, there is a wealth of information and visuals to support a unit on castles and/or England.

The book PDF does make a disclaimer that it might be outdated (and it is--1994) so be aware that you may need to update some of the resources. This is geared towards British teachers but the information can easily be adapted for U.S. classroom curriculum. For example, it can be used grade 7- The Middle Ages. However, I would not suggest giving this content directly to middle school students because the reading level would be too high.
