About This Lesson
The popular young adult book Wonder by R.J. Palacio has been a #1 New York Times bestseller. It is based on the true and inspirational story of a disfigured boy named August who does not attend a real school until grade 5. In this lesson Wonder is used as a tool to teach Grade 5 to Grade 8 students how to find textual evidence. Students learn important skills for college success, such as paraphrasing, quoting, and avoiding plagiarism. Three customized handouts are provided that are specifically designed to be used with the first three chapters of Wonder.
The lesson plans says that the first 3 chapters are included, but I only see the first 2. The 2nd and 3rd handouts are the same; "Why I didn't go to school". Is there another handout? Also, the directions beginning with "Answer why..." should end in periods, not question marks. Otherwise, great lesson. Thanks for sharing!
