About This Lesson
Welcome to The Harry Bridges Project and this introduction to our Lesson Plans. We hope that you will find our Plans to be stimulating for your students and effective teaching tools for you. Your students will discover the importance of Harry Bridges, a visionary labor leader who played a role in many pivotal events of 20th Century America as he championed workers rights and economic justice. His life encompassed the Great Depression, the rise of the American Labor Movement, racial prejudice and discrimination, red-scares and McCarthyism (he went through 21 years of trials and hearing accused of being a Communist) government surveillance, the Cold War and the coming of globalization. He will take you on a trip through 20th American history as one of its most dynamic and insightful guides.
