About This Lesson
RL.9-12.4 Determine meaning of words and phrases as they are used in context.
The following resources are used as a mini lesson in conceptual correct signing. Using the five parameter chart emphasizes the importance of correct concepts as well as correct production.
This list is GREAT. I really like all the words I can show my students when they complain about how ASL uses sign meaning of things.
The other sheet was okay. I would suggest you make the chart more user friendly. Put in the non-manual signals/markers as a title. They are one of the parameters of ASL. Also, I've divided my chart into Dominate(D) and Non-dominate(ND) hand. They can tell what each hand is doing. I also put it there is repetition of the movement. The top of my chart looks like this...
Gloss--Handshape Handshape Location Location Palm Orientation Palm Orientation
D ND D ND D ND
Movement Movement NMS/NMM or
D ND Repetition
This would be on top of the full page. Students can gloss in a way that they can understand or follow the way many of the ASL book show to do it.
Thanks for sharing this Lesson. It gave me some good ideas for using the list you gave.
